How to pick a PR and marketing agency you’ll want to work with again and again

January 16, 2018

I was in a meeting with a prospective client recently, one of those gatherings where you say all the right things, you share expertise freely and you convey creative ideas, but something intangible feels a bit…off. We weren’t feeling the chemistry – that thing beyond meaningful, measurable results that makes an agency-client relationship sing.

The prospect was talking to a couple of firms we know and respect. We suspected the choice would come down to how we all felt about each other and the possibility of working together every day.

We walked away from that meeting talking about how to convey quickly, to people we’ve just met, that when we talk about our team as solidly focused on the fast-paced pursuit of awesome, it’s not hyperbole. It’s not marketing BS. It’s just us. It’s the DNA of the company.

It’s a challenge for any services business when it comes to selling, and it’s one reason why we love seeing former clients pop back up, years after we might have first worked together. Maybe they pulled back then because their product-market fit needed tweaking, they wanted to hit pause to pursue more funding, or they went through an acquisition. Or maybe we saw them for a project just a few months before, and they were ready to kick off their next initiative.

Whatever the reason, when a familiar face boomerangs back, it’s like picking up with an old friend you haven’t seen in a while. While our team spends every day working hard to amaze every single customer we serve, pre-established trust and rapport is fuel that fires us up – it’s the excitement of let’s-go-out-and-kill-it-AGAIN.

Building long-term and repeat partnerships

When a former client becomes a repeat client, we hear it as, “I have a new challenge, and I trust you to partner with me in rising to meet it.”

Over the years, we’ve seen numerous contacts come back to Metis multiple times, as they start and join new ventures, or take on new marketing initiatives. Their reappearances are among the best testimonials an agency can have.

Is it time for us to get to know each other (again)? Let’s talk.

Could we be just right for each other? Get in touch.
